Rancho Incab
These kits allow the adjustment of the shocks damping levels. Anywhere. Anytime.
Whether you’re parked in a driveway, whizzing down the freeway, or working your way aong a tough trail, just a simple push of a button gets you the ride and control you want.
With a Rancho RCX in-cab kit fitting, you tend to make more use of your shocks adjustability. Because of the ease of operation, and the fact that you can make changes on the go, short stretches of rough track, cattle grids and creekbeds, can be tackled more comfortably, and more safely, just by pushing buttons on the dash.
We have the RCX in-cab system and Rancho RS9000X shocks fitted to our mighty TJ Wrangler.
The Jeep is an awesome performer on and off the road, and the RCX kit works a treat.
The kits include a small, but powerful compressor, air-hoses, gauges, control buttons, connectors, and valves. Nothing else is required – apart from some time to do the fitting.
How does it work?
When you adjust a Rancho or Tough Dog exteranlly ride-adjustable shock by hand, the twist action of the manual control knob has a telescopic effect on it’s reverse side. The depth of the telescope determins the position of a small spring-loaded piston inside the shock body. Where the piston is placed determins the flow-rate of oil through the shocks base valve. And, therefore, the level of ride adjustment.
More oil-flow results in a more free-acting, softer-performing shock. Restricting the oil-flow tightens up the shock making the damping levels firmer.
When you fit the Rancho RCX in-cab kit, small elbow-joint air-fittings replace the manual control knobs, and it is air-pressure that determines the position of the small spring-loaded piston – rather than the telescopic ram of the original adjustment knob.
How diffucult is it to fit? Easy, but it can be time consuming.
If you had to link everything together on a lounge room floor it would take about 20 minutes. All the fittings are simple push-to-connect type, and if you do make a mistake with the fitting, it doesn’t take too long to track down the leak.
The time-consuming part means that, when you are setting it up on the vehicle, you want everything to look and fit perfectly, and to be securely fastened.
The compressor can be mounted in any convenient position. Ususally the engine bay or inside the cabin.
It will take time to run the airlines in a fashion that ensure they cannot become caught or snagged when off-road, and that there is enough length in the hose to allow for the vehilce’s suspension travel.
It’s all reasonably easy. Make it a weekend project (with the help of a mate) and you’ll be rewarded with a great result.
The RCX Rancho in-cab kit may (at first) seem like a luxury item, but it will make your off-road adventures much more enjoyable. And once you get used to it, you’ll find yourself making adjustments without even taking your eyes off the road ahead.
